This accelerated 80-hour training course provides training and education on the history of sleep medicine, sleep disorders, sleep studies, and patient care. This hands-on course equips trainees with critical knowledge needed to start working as a sleep technician, leading to a successful career as a sleep technologist.
The course concludes with an online final exam consisting of multiple-choice questions based on the Intro to Sleep Medicine for Technologists Course. After passing the A-STEP final exam, students advance onto The Intro to Sleep Medicine for Technologists Modules. The modules are designed to equip trainees with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in the field of sleep technology. Program Admission Requirements
To be considered for admission, applicants must submit the following documents before proceeding with the application process:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid government-issued identification and proof of legal presence
- A REAL ID is preferred.
- Applicants who do not possess a REAL ID may submit a birth certificate as proof of legal presence.

Once all required documents have been received, applicants will be scheduled for a pre-screening interview with the Sleep Program Instructor. Please do not complete any of the additional requirements listed below until after the interview has been conducted.
The purpose of the interview is to provide prospective students with detailed information regarding the program curriculum, academic expectations, career opportunities, and professional responsibilities associated with the field prior to enrollment.
Following successful completion of the interview, applicants will be required to submit the following:

Documentation of the following immunizations and screenings is required:
- Hepatitis B series
- Influenza (Flu)
- TB Skin Test or Blood Test(QuantiFeron Gold) are acceptable
- Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella)
- Varicella (Chickenpox)
10-Panel Drug Screen

Course Structure
Students receive classroom and online instruction and hands-on lab sessions. Students are required to demonstrate the skills needed to perform different types of sleep studies. Exciting clinical opportunities are held throughout the course at sleep labs associated with Spartanburg Regional Health System.
This course is ideal for health care professionals with certifications such as an EMT, CMA, EEG technician or neurodiagnostic technician, RN/LPN, Respiratory Therapists, and those with previous sleep lab experience. Certification in a health care profession is not required but strongly recommended. If you do not have a healthcare background, Anatomy & Physiology and Medical Terminology are recommended.
NOTE: Greenville Technical College is accredited as an A-STEP provider. Beginning July 2008, any candidate qualifying for the BRPT examination process must meet eligibility requirements by submitting proof of completion of the A-STEP Introductory Course and proof of completion of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine's A-STEP self-learning modules, or an equivalent educational program, with their application to sit for the registry exam.
The course fee includes two books which will be provided by Greenville Technical College and one book must be purchased by the student. The book that must be purchased by the student is called:

There is an additional fee for completing the exam of $50 which is paid by the student. Once you pass your final exam you will have access to complete the A-STEP modules? which could be an additional expense.
