The Nursing Assistant program provides the foundation for a career in nursing care. Students learn essential patient care skills that support quality of life in long-term care facilities, hospitals, and home health settings. Program completion and state certification can open the door to a variety of healthcare career opportunities.

The program includes 60 hours of classroom and lab instruction and 40 hours of supervised clinical experience. Experienced instructors guide students through lectures, hands-on lab practice, and clinical training.

Admission Requirements:
  • Must be at least 17 years old
  • Able to read, write, and understand English at an 8th-grade level
  • Acceptable criminal background screening through Premier Biotech
  • Negative 10-panel drug screening through Premier Biotech
  • 2-step TB skin test (or QuantiFERON blood test)
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification completed before course completion
  • Attendance at a program information session
Funding: 
This program is eligible for Career Pathways Scholarship (CPS) funding for qualified students. CPS may cover up to 90% of enrollment and book costs.  Students are responsible for remaining 10% before registration can be completed.

CNA Duties Include:
  • Assisting with bathing, grooming, and feeding
  • Taking and recording vital signs
  • Observing and reporting patient conditions
  • Supporting patients with activities of daily living
  • Communicating effectively with patients and healthcare staff

Special Note:  During flu season (October 1-March 31), students attending clinical rotations must provide proof of a current flu vaccination. Students unable to receive the vaccine must submit physician documentation stating they should not be vaccinated.

Certification Exam:  Upon successful completion of the program, students are eligible to take the South Carolina Nurse Aide Certification Exam. A $140 testing fee is required. Applications are completed on the final day of class, and testing is scheduled onsite with the class.
